Overview
Troy M. Lovell joined Gunster in January 2022 as Associate Ethics Counsel. In 2024, he was named Deputy General Counsel and Ethics Counsel. He primarily operates out of the Tampa office but provides services throughout the state. From 2005 until 2019, Troy was a Senior Attorney for The Florida Bar for Lawyer Regulation. At the Bar, he prosecuted over 200 cases before the Florida Supreme Court and spoke frequently at continuing legal education seminars and to local bar groups on ethical issues. He was also a member of the National Organization of Bar Counsel, where he served on the Standards Committee, advising on recommended changes to the Model Standards for Imposing Lawyer Discipline. Troy has also practiced in the areas of commercial litigation and real estate transactions with local and national firms.
Troy received his undergraduate degree in Foreign Service, with a concentration in International Economics from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, where he graduated magna cum laude. He also studied for a year at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Troy received his law degree from Duke University in 1992.
Troy was admitted to practice in Florida in 1992. He currently serves on the Board of the Ferguson-White American Inn of Court. From 2007 through 2019, he served as the Student Volunteer Coordinator for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Teen Court Program.
