WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 4, 2018) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Brian Sparks has joined the firm as a shareholder in the private wealth services practice. He will be based in the Tampa office.
For more than 25 years, Sparks has served clients in the central and southwestern Florida regions providing family business and multigenerational estate, tax, asset protection, and privacy protection planning. His practice also includes defense of taxpayers in Internal Revenue Service tax controversy matters and probate and trust litigation. More recently, Sparks has worked closely with clients providing counsel on privacy issues relating to cyber theft and security.
“Brian’s extensive knowledge, relationships, and experience in the greater Tampa Bay region are invaluable as our firm continues its statewide growth and seeks opportunities to better serve our clients,” said Gunster managing shareholder Bill Perry. “His robust client base and depth of understanding of the asset protection issues facing individuals and business owners further strengthen our private wealth services practice.”
Sparks is a fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and serves as a member of the executive council of The Florida Bar Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section. He has received numerous legal accolades, including being named a Florida Super Lawyer in estate planning and probate since 2007, a “Key Individual” in his areas of practice by Chambers & Partners USA, and 2014-2015 “Lawyer of the Year” for Tampa Litigation and Controversy by Best Lawyers In America.
Outside of the legal field, Sparks is an active member of his community serving as a wilderness emergency medical technician, wilderness first responder, and search and rescue technician. He is a frequent lecturer on disaster and emergency preparedness, including hurricanes and other natural disasters, and urban and wilderness medical emergencies.
He received his LL.M in Taxation from New York University, his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law, and his B.S. from Southeast Missouri State University.
The hiring of Sparks continues the firm’s growth in the Tampa region with the recent addition of nine local attorneys.
