WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2019) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that shareholder Brian Sparks has been appointed to serve as chair of the newly formed Disaster and Emergency Planning and Response Committee of The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law (RPPTL) Section.

The new committee supports attorneys within the Section and their clients to prepare for disasters and emergencies through the development of plans and procedures in order to respond to the consequential needs that could arise, such as last year’s Hurricane Michael that devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle.

“As Floridians, we are often in the eye of the storm so it’s important to be prepared and equipped – and as business leaders and counselors, it’s equally as important to equip others,” said Sparks.

Gunster attorney Brian SparksSparks is a shareholder in the private wealth services practice at Gunster. His legal practice is primarily devoted to representing individuals and businesses in tax, estate, asset protection, business succession, and personal cybersecurity planning and tax and fiduciary controversy matters. He is Florida Bar Board Certified in Tax Law and in Wills, Trusts and Estates and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).

Sparks concentrates his community service on disaster and emergency preparedness education and response. He is a Wilderness EMT, Wilderness First Responder, and Search and Rescue Technician. Sparks has participated in response efforts in many disasters and emergencies, including hurricanes, fires, floods, lightning, motor vehicle accidents, tornadoes, and wilderness medical emergencies.

Gunster has significant involvement in the RPPTL Section and shareholder Deb Boje is the immediate past chair.
