WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce the addition of J. Michael Marshall as a shareholder in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office, where he will join its environmental and land use law practice.
Marshall joins the firm with a diverse professional background in law, engineering and business administration. He has extensive experience representing an array of both public and private sector clients, such as property owners, developers, financial institutions and large organizations, including hospitals, universities and counties in land use, planning, and real estate matters.
“Michael’s deep legal experience with government and corporate policies will be a valuable addition to our firm’s growing environmental and land use practice,” said Bill Perry, managing shareholder of Gunster. “This addition is a testament to Gunster’s continued ability to attract world-class legal talent across all 13 of our statewide locations.”
Marshall’s work in the private sector focuses on advising client property acquisitions, due diligence, development yield analysis, title examinations, and restrictive covenant analysis and review. While in the public sector, he worked closely with local governments to draft land development regulations, like zoning code and special purpose plans.
He has served as counsel of record and expert witness in land use and real estate litigation matters, such as certiorari review of local government land use decisions, constitutional due process, property rights claims and landlord-tenant disputes.
Active in the legal community, Marshall is a member of the Florida Bar’s Environmental and Land Use Law Section, the Urban Land Institute’s Mobility Committee and is a member of the board of directors, and master plan and projects committees of Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale.
Marshall holds a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law, an MBA from University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a B.S. in civil engineering from North Carolina State University.
