JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2018) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, today announced that Samantha L. Prokop has joined the firm as a shareholder of the growing health care law practice. She will be based in the Jacksonville office.
Prokop’s health care practice will focus on regulatory compliance matters including structuring arrangements to comply with the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute and other applicable state laws. She will also have a strong focus on compliance, providing proactive HIPAA assistance and defense of providers undergoing health care regulatory audits. Additionally, her practice will also aid health care and corporate clients in a variety of transactional matters, from starting new businesses to mergers and acquisitions to dissolution of partnerships.
“Samantha’s unique specialization and wealth of knowledge in defending health care providers from a comprehensive set of legal challenges make her an excellent addition to Gunster’s full-service health care practice,” said Lila Jaber, regional managing shareholder, Gunster. “Her expertise in business transactions and regulatory compliance will be an invaluable resource to health care providers across Florida.”
Prokop, who previously worked at a boutique law firm in Jacksonville, has extensive legal experience in health care and business, including working as an in-house risk manager and general counsel for a multi-hospital health care system. Her experience and insight allow her to develop unique and practical solutions to the broad range of legal challenges that health care providers face.
Last year, EPI Compliance named Prokop the Top Health Care Legal Professional for 2017. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the North Florida Medical Group Management Association. She has also been a featured speaker on compliance at the Compliance and Healthcare Innovation Conference in Orlando hosted by EPI Compliance since the program’s inception.
Prokop joins the firm’s other leading health care attorneys, including Bruce Lamb and Bill Dillon. She holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from University of Akron School of Law and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Baldwin-Wallace University.
