WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 29, 2018) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that attorney Joseph L. Raia has been appointed vice chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law.

Raia will play a key role in the leadership of the 17,000-member section that has representation from over 100 countries worldwide. He will be primarily responsible for coordinating the work of the section’s 62 committees and will work closely with the chair and chair-elect to advance the section’s strategic plan. Raia will assume the role of section chair in two years.

“I see the section’s mission as one of service,” said Raia regarding his appointment. “We help our members to do well, by becoming better lawyers and improving their worldwide professional network.  We help them to do good, by advancing the development of international law and the rule of law.”

Prior to his role as vice chair, he served on the section’s executive committee and as secretary/operations officer. Raia has contributed to ABA policy and comparative work on multiple legal and policy issues.

The ABA Section of International Law is a global leader in the development of policy in the international arena, the promotion of the rule of law and the education of international law practitioners.  The section focuses on the full range of international legal issues and is involved in a wide variety of substantive legal activities.
