West Palm Beach, Fla. (November 19, 2015) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that shareholder Greg Schwinghammer has been elected chair of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 15th judicial circuit, serving Palm Beach County.
Schwinghammer was appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission by Governor Rick Scott in 2012. His four year term will be complete on July 1, 2016.
There are Judicial Nominating Commissions, or JNCs, at the circuit, district, supreme court, and federal level to appoint judges to vacancies in the courts. In Florida, there are 27 JNCs, including one for each of the 20 circuit courts. In the last year, the JNC for the 15th Circuit assisted in appointing six judges to the Palm Beach County bench.
While serving as chair, Schwinghammer will be notified by Governor Scott when there is a vacancy in the 15th circuit court. He will then assemble the JNC for the 15th judicial circuit to submit and investigate the names of qualified candidates to fill the vacancy.
Schwinghammer joined Gunster in 1996, and works in the business litigation and labor and employment practices. He heads the toxic tort subgroup of business litigation. Before his legal career, he was a cavalry officer in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and Kuwait. Schwinghammer represents clients throughout Florida and around the country. He has tried cases at all levels, including local, circuit, and federal courts.
Schwinghammer’s experience ranges from mass and toxic tort cases, consumer and employment class actions, complex business and breach of contract cases, labor and employment law claims, to bankruptcy litigation.
