WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 13, 2014) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that Simon Ferro, a shareholder in its Miami office, has been inducted into the Miami Dade College 2014 Hall of Fame.
Simon Ferro has more than 30 years’ experience in the areas of zoning, land use and governmental relations. He is a former U.S. ambassador to Panama and maintains strong ties in Latin America.
Each year, MDC selects accomplished alumni who have made a significant impact in the community and Miami Dade County for the honor.
This year’s 28 inductees join the ranks of MDC Hall of Famers including actor Andy Garcia, music industry mogul Emilio Estefan, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, former Dolphins receiver Nat Moore, Carnival Chairman & CEO Micky Arison and U.S. congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen, among others.
Ferro was the U.S. ambassador to Panama from 1999-2001. He was appointed by then-President Bill Clinton to lead the country’s diplomatic mission in Panama during the historic handover of the Panama Canal and numerous military installations to Panamanian control. Prior to that appointment, he served on the Board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) from 1994-99.
