On July 11, Gunster hosted its much-anticipated annual Education Foundation of Palm Beach County Backpack Build, an event that gives teachers and students access to essential school supplies as they gear up for the upcoming school year. As many attorneys and staff are the product of the Palm Beach County Education System, Gunster understands that the foundation of a strong community is built on the education of its children. With this, the backpack build has become more than just an event; it’s a tradition that empowers the youth of the community.
The event began with the leadership of late Gunster shareholder, Ed Tancer, who was the Chairman of the Board for the Education Foundation. Continuing Ed’s legacy, Gunster’s Greg Schwinghammer has since joined the Board of Directors. In an interview, Greg shares, “Our partnership with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County is more than a charitable endeavor; it is a reflection of our unwavering dedication to the community and to the role we want to play to shape a better tomorrow.” He references James Davrilos, President and CEO of the Education Foundation, saying, “We are not just filling backpacks with supplies; we are helping kids start their school year with pride and dignity, prepared for a great year of learning. This is the essence of our commitment to the Education Foundation. It’s why we will continue to lend our hands, hearts, and resources to the cause. It’s also an opportunity for our team at Gunster to come together for a cause that transcends our daily work. It fosters a sense of teamwork, empathy, and a shared purpose that enriches our firm’s culture.”
This year, the firm set a record, assembling 1,674 backpacks in under an hour. On Friday August 9th, Gunster attorneys and staff will have the opportunity to deliver the backpacks to both Lincoln and C.O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary. Gunster’s commitment to the Education Foundation is not isolated to this one event. We continue to partner with the Education Foundation throughout the year alongside other community leaders and organizations. Greg explains, “We wholeheartedly recommend to others to join the effort to make a difference in the lives of the students in Palm Beach County.” Find out how you can support the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.
