In late July, Gunster partnered with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County to build backpacks to help ensure local Palm Beach County students and teachers have access to essential supplies to engage in fun learning opportunities and develop habits for a successful 2023-24 academic year. The firm understands the constitutive role of a robust public education in developing and fostering local communities, and is proud to support the Education Foundation in its mission to enhance the educational opportunities that are available within the School District.
In under 90 minutes, the firm's dedicated volunteers assembled 1,266 backpacks, setting a new record. Ed Tancer, late Gunster shareholder, played a pivotal role in initiating the backpack build while he served as Chairman of the Board for the Education Foundation. In honor of Ed’s legacy, Gunster Shareholder Greg Schwinghammer joined the Education Foundation's Board of Directors. In an interview, Greg states, “I was introduced to the Education Foundation by my late colleague and dear friend, Ed Tancer, a product of Palm Beach County public schools, and who served as the Education Foundation’s Chairman of the Board. Ed was a great attorney, but his passion was supporting community initiatives, and his primary focus was always the Education Foundation." As Greg notes, "A strong education system is essential for developing a strong and sustainable community. By supporting the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, organizations can contribute to developing our thriving community."
On August 9, the backpacks were delivered to the elementary school Ed Tancer attended, Clifford O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary. View the video below to watch Gunster's volunteers in action!
