Jacksonville, FL (AUGUST 6, 2008) — Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. announces the addition of attorney Edward M. Whelan to their Jacksonville office.

Mr. Whelan is the newest shareholder to the Jacksonville office of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. and is a member of the Litigation Practice Group. His practice focuses on construction related issues, including state and federal procurement. In addition to trial, mediation and arbitration, much of his work involves counseling clients in avoiding construction disputes, including drafting and reviewing construction contracts and assisting clients with licensing issues. Mr. Whelan has experience in a wide variety of construction claims, including lien disputes, and performance and payment bond claims. He is a member of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite and is recognized by Best Lawyers in America for 2008 in Construction Law.

Whelan earned his B.S. at the University of Maryland and J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law where he graduated cum laude as well as a member of the prestigious Order of the Coif. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1999 and the South Carolina Bar in 1995 and is admitted to practice before the Middle Florida U.S. District Court, the South Carolina U.S. District Court, the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. Federal Claims Court.

He is board certified in Construction Law by the Florida Bar and is a member of the Florida Bar Construction Law Certification Committee. Whelan is the co-author of several published works on construction litigation including the Florida Chapter, State-by-State Guide to Construction Contracts and Claims; Owner’s Implied Warranty of Adequacy of the Plans and Specifications (Spearin Warranty): A Primer on its Application and Limitations; the South Carolina Chapter, The Design/Build Process: A Guide to Licensing and Procurement Requirements in the 50 States and Canada; and the South Carolina Chapter, State-by- State Guide to Architect, Engineer and Contractor Licensing.
