JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 15, 2009) – Michael Cavendish, a shareholder and business litigator in the Jacksonville office of Gunster, Attorneys at Law, authored the featured story in the National Law Journal’s July issue. Titled “Corporate warfare has to make business sense these days,” the article addresses the effect of the ongoing economic recession on corporate litigation and reports on cost-effective strategies companies are adopting in response.

Within law departments, Cavendish reports that 2009 has been the year of budgeting – a year of financial difficulty providing litigation managers and their leaders vital new courses in business education.

Cavendish, known equally as a commercial trial lawyer and a legal essayist, focuses his practice on complex business trials. As a trial lawyer he is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been awarded the Legal Elite designation by Florida Trend each year since 2005. His recent court appearances include providing class action counsel to a publicly traded bank holding company, serving as lead trial counsel to a division of a Fortune 100 bank, and acting as lead environmental liability trial counsel to Florida-based private developers.

As a writer he has authored two collections of legal essays and has writing credits in The Federal Lawyer, The National Law Journal, The Bencher, and the Florida Bar Journal. He is a past winner of the Florida Bar’s annual Excellence in Writing Award, and was selected by the Florida Bar as a featured contributor in four different books published by the Bar and Lexis Publishing:  Evidence in Florida, Florida Civil Practice Before Trial, Florida Civil Trial Practice, and Business Litigation in Florida. Cavendish received his juris doctor and master’s degree from the University of Florida, and his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.
