WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (June 9, 2009) – Robert Friedman, a shareholder and insurance litigation attorney at Gunster in West Palm Beach, was recently named to the board of directors of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. He will serve a three-year term beginning June 1, 2009.

Actively engaged in the community, Friedman received the prestigious Cornerstone Award in 2006 by the Lawyers Alliance for New York. This pro-bono award, which is awarded annually to a select group of individuals and institutions that have made extraordinary contributions through pro bono legal services, recognized the hundreds of hours of time and legal expertise Friedman donated to The Bridge, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides housing and mental health services to adults with serious mental illnesses. He was also recognized by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York City Fund for volunteering his time to provide legal counsel to victims and families of the 9/11 attacks. Since relocating to Florida three years ago, Friedman has participated in the annual event, Lawyers for Literacy: Read Across Palm Beach County Celebration, where reads to area preschoolers and shares his joy of learning.

Friedman is one of the few attorneys in Florida who represent corporate policyholders in disputes with their insurance companies, and has litigated insurance and other complex commercial disputes in various state and federal courts. A Harvard Law School graduate, he focuses on difficult insurance coverage issues, including property damage, bodily injury, environmental liability, products liability, director and officer liability, intellectual property liability, business interruption, and crime and fidelity matters.
