In Florida’s bustling multicultural state of almost 19 million residents, a statewide rather than parochial view of Florida’s issues is mandatory if we want to ensure a better future for all.

So says Lila A. Jaber, a shareholder in Gunster’s Tallahassee office, and chair of Leadership Florida for 2011-2012.

In an editorial recently published by the Tallahassee Democrat, Jaber describes how class members in Leadership Florida entered the program aligning themselves with the city in which they live, but left seeing themselves as Floridians first.

This is especially important “[i]n a state where only 30 percent of us were born here,” Jaber says.

Leadership Florida, she says, brings together leaders from diverse industries, communities, philosophies and perspectives to educate them on the critical issues facing our state and to motivate them toward finding solutions to build a better state for all of us.
