Martin Press, an attorney in Gunster’s tax practice, participated in a Critication Conversations panel hosted by the South Florida Business Journal in September 2011.

The purpose of the panel was to have a dialogue on key issues in law and accounting, including the state of the economy – locally and nationally – and the wave of fraud occurring in the South Florida region.

The government is in collection and enforcement mode due to the faltering economy and growing national debt, Press said, according to a write up in the South Florida Business Journal.

In South Florida, this is felt in increased efforts by the IRS to monitor people with foreign bank accounts and foreign trade, he said.

Employers and higher-net-worth individuals are undergoing more and more intrustive audits, he added.
