FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (May 28, 2009) — George LeMieux, chairman of Gunster and former Chief of Staff to Governor Crist, shared his insider’s perspective on the bills reviewed during the 2009 Florida legislative session and their anticipated relevance and impact on the local business community at the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

“This season’s legislative session produced many successful results on some of Florida’s most significant issues, from higher education reform and allocation of federal stimulus dollars to the Seminole gaming compact and property tax reform,” said LeMieux, who is based at the firm’s Tallahassee office and travels between its eight offices around the state. “At this crucial time in Florida’s history, it’s essential to understand how local and state government decisions like these affect the business community as a whole, and as of us as individuals.”

LeMieux has earned a reputation as a connected resource for CEOs and business professionals to interpret the impact of new legislation in Florida. Earlier this year, he launched the Boardroom Brief, an interactive web site that provides links to all the major daily newspapers in Florida and major national media outlets, and highlights some of the most relevant daily headlines for business leaders. LeMieux also writes The LeMieux Report, an electronic newsletter distributed weekly to thousands of business and governmental leaders that offers the top five business, legal and political stories of the week, with LeMieux’s “bottom line analysis” of each story.

More than 200 South Florida business, government and civic leaders were in attendance, including Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Romney Rogers, Broward Republican Chairman Chip LaMarca; Broward Democratic Chairman Mitch Caesar; Hospital District Commissioner Joseph Cobo; Courtney Brogan, First Lady of Florida Atlantic University; Judge Martin Dishowitz; Judge Mark Speiser; and Meenu Sasser, 15th District Circuit Court judge and Gunster shareholder; plus Gunster attorneys Martin Press; Gregory Bader; Marybeth Bosko; Fabienne Fahnestock; Jonathan Gilbert and Daniel Mackler.
