Ft. Lauderdale, FL (February 6, 2009): The YMCA of Broward County named Christian Petersen, an attorney with the law firm of Gunster, its Volunteer of the Year for the L.A. Lee Family Center. Petersen, a shareholder and a member of the firm’s litigation practice group, was recognized for his dedication and outstanding service to the YMCA at its annual meeting.

“The L.A. Lee Family YMCA does so much good for the community, and I am proud to be a part of it,” said Petersen. “It’s been a pleasure serving with the dedicated individuals on the board and at the executive level and I look forward to the year ahead.”

Petersen was Chairman of the Board of Directors and has been a member of the board since 2006. The YMCA of Broward County impacts the lives of thousands of people, from children to senior citizens throughout Fort Lauderdale, and has been providing quality programs and services in the Central Broward area since 1948. The motto of the YMCA to build strong kids, strong families, strong communities and its mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body, for all.

According to Sheryl Woods, CEO of the YMCA of Broward County, Petersen embodies the spirit of the organization, and has made a significant impact with his involvement. “We are grateful to Christian for providing his insight, time, energy and overall support,” she said. “He has been a consistent and important advocate for the YMCA and with his participation the L.A. Lee Family Center has provided outstanding services for the community.”

Petersen focuses his practice on general and complex commercial litigation, construction litigation, creditors’ rights bankruptcy and computer law. He earned his J.D. at Vanderbilt University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.
