JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (February 5, 2009) –– The law firm of Gunster recently joined the Jacksonville Public Library Foundation (JPLF) for a special reception to recognize dedicated local benefactors of the Jacksonville Public Library system. The reception was held in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Center for Literacy in the Main Library.

“Now, more than ever, the Jacksonville Public Library must rely on private support from citizens and companies like Gunster that care deeply about community building,” said Maggie Hightower, executive director for the JPLF. “This kind of support is what will ensure that Jacksonville’s world-class library system will continue and thrive. Thank you to Gunster for creating such a wonderful opportunity to recognize our supporters.”

Guests at the reception included Mayor John Peyton, Library Foundation Board Chair Betsy Lovett, Gunster Chairman George LeMieux, Charles and Eli Zimmerman, Tony and Bonnie Sleiman, Rita Cannon, as well as representatives from Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield and St. Vincent’s Healthcare. Thanks to ongoing community support, 1.3 million residents have the opportunity to “Start Here… Go Anywhere” at the Jacksonville Public Library.

“The library is one of the great treasures in our community, remaining a vital resource to enhance and educate the lives of those around us,” said James “Joby” O. Birr III, a commercial litigation attorney at Gunster who serves on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “As a firm, Gunster is proud to be an active, engaged member in each of the eight cities where we have an office. We’d also like to thank the library for all that they do for the residents of Jacksonville.”
