Cavendish joins newly elected chair Ava L. Parker as JTA board leadership team for 2009
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — (DECEMBER 17, 2008) — Michael Cavendish, shareholder and litigation attorney with Gunster Yoakley, has been unanimously elected vice chairman of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) for 2009.
Cavendish will serve as part of the new board leadership team along with newly elected chair Ava L. Parker, a partner in the law firm Lawrence, Parker & Neighbors, LLC. Parker previously served as JTA treasurer and succeeds outgoing chair Cleve E. Warren.
Cavendish was originally appointed as a board member to the JTA by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist in 2007. He has served during the past year as chairman of the JTA board’s Mass Transit Committee.
“Jacksonville is an expansive community with changing and challenging transportation needs,” Cavendish said. “This board will work toward smart, cost-effective transportation solutions that will keep Jacksonville moving forward.”
The JTA is an independent state agency serving Duval County in Northeast Florida, including the Greater Jacksonville metro area. The agency represents the largest city in the continental United States in terms of land mass. The JTA designs bridges, highways and mass transit solutions, including bus and trolley services, sports stadium shuttle services and the JTA Skyway system that links people and downtown Jacksonville businesses on both sides of the St. Johns River.
