WEST PALM BEACH, Fla, and MIAMI — November 7, 2008 — Gunster Yoakley, one of Florida’s largest full-service law firms, recently participated in relief efforts to aid families left devastated by recent hurricanes and severe weather in Haiti and Cuba. The money raised by firm attorneys and staff members was used to purchase food and hygiene products.
Gunster staff members Michelle McLeod and Lesly Vanegas co-chaired the effort. “Seeing the incredible images of widespread destruction on the news and reading the heartbreaking stories of severe loss inspired us to act quickly,” said Vanegas.
The relief provisions included clothing for men, women and children of all ages, nonperishable foods such as beans, fruit, baby food, water and rice, including hygiene products from toothpaste to medicines and sheets. The donations – a total of 127 large bags and boxes of supplies – were dropped off at the Notre-Dame D’Haiti Catholic Church in Miami, Hermanas de la Caridad (Sisters of Charity) in Miami, and St. James Catholic Church for Haiti in North Miami.
“Although we are all facing a rocky economy here in the United States, our colleagues pulled together and opened their hearts to make this project a huge success,” said McLeod. “Words cannot express the gratitude we received from the charitable organizations.”
