Law firm participates in ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. is doing its part in being environmentally friendly. The firm’s eight offices recently partnered up with the ABA-EPA Law Office Challenge through its enrollment in the Best Practices for Paper Office Management, WasteWise and ENERGY STAR.
The environmental sustainability movement is emerging throughout the country. The Law Office Climate Challenge gives the legal profession the opportunity to be a leader in this national movement.
“We are proud to participate in the eco-friendly programs implemented by the Section of Environment, Energy and Resources of the American Bar Association,” said George LeMieux, chairman of Gunster Yoakley. “It is our duty to make sure that our planet will be a safe place for future generations. This program sets an example to our staff, clients, colleagues and community that we need to be accountable and responsible for taking care of our environment.”
To participate in this challenge, all eight offices Gunster Yoakley had to make sure 90 percent of its paper, including copier, printer, letterhead, bond paper and envelopes were at least 30 percent post-consumer recycled content. The firm must recycle at least 90 percent of its discarded mixed office paper (defined as all types of white paper, colored paper, file folder, and envelopes), and adopt a policy of double sided copying. The offices are also required to measure, track and improve the energy performance using the tools and resources offered through ENERGY STAR.
