Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — In an effort to stay at the forefront of litigation, Gunster Yoakley sent three attorneys to the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) to hone up on their trial skills. NITA is the nation’s leading provider of legal advocacy skills training. Attorneys Scott Dangler, Robert Malinoski and John Moran, all members of the firm’s litigation department, completed the rigorous course that spans a nine-day period, and is taught by civil and criminal attorneys from across the country.

“Because litigation is such a critical part of the firm, we want to give our attorneys every possible opportunity to sharpen their abilities,” said Dan Mackler, office chair for the firm’s Fort Lauderdale location.

“This was an extremely valuable workshop that provided instruction and intense hands-on learning,” said Scott Dangler, who practices from the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. “The days were very long, but each one was filled with information and activities that helps us all as attorneys.”

Among the missions of NITA is to train and mentor lawyers to be competent and ethical advocates in pursuit of justice; and develop and teach trial advocacy skills to support and promote the effective and fair administration of justice. “The course was very demanding, but we came away with great confidence in our capabilities in areas such as cross-examination and opening and closing arguments,” said Robert Malinoski, also in the Fort Lauderdale office.

“The ‘boot-camp’ aspect of the course was very effective,” added John Moran, who practices in the West Palm Beach office. “Extremely talented attorneys and judges really challenged us to become more ethical and professional advocates.”

NITA pioneered the legal skills learning-by-doing methodology more than 35 years ago and has since remained the ultimate standard in continuing legal education.
