On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, Jacksonville attorney Michael Cavendish took part in a major announcement by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood at the Duval County Veterans’ Memorial Wall Park in Jacksonville, Florida.  Cavendish participated in his capacity as Chairman of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), alongside Secretary LaHood and Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown.Secretary LaHood announced the JTA’s receipt of a $1.9 million grant to create the Northeast Florida One Call/One Click Transportation Resource Center.  This center is one of 55 centers across the country which received $34.6 million in federal grants and is part of the Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative.  The Center will streamline needs of veterans and other disabled people who need convenient and affordable transportation to health care facilities or for employment reasons.  This new initiative is an effort to enhance access to local, affordable transportation services for military families and spouses, wounded warriors, and other people with disabilities.
