The Marbut Report: Freed to Run campaign raises more than $300,000As a follow up to the Freed to Run 2.0 relay marathon which ran its course on December 2 – December 7, a recent article in the Jacksonville Daily Record reports on the campaign earnings.

The second edition of Mike Freed’s series of six marathons in six days raised more than $300,000 to benefit Jacksonville Area Legal Aid’s (JALA) Northeast Florida Medical Legal Partnership. With these funds, participating health care providers refer pediatric patients and their families to JALA, which provides legal assistance with matters such as access to medical benefits, safe housing, and patient-specific education needs.

This year, 17 teams from a variety of organizations each ran a single marathon in support of Freed’s efforts. Most teams ran a relay, but five runners completed the full marathon alongside Freed. Although the race has concluded, donations can still be made in support of Freed’s efforts.

Freed is based out of the Jacksonville office and is a part of Gunster’s business litigation team. He has a wealth of experience in the courtroom and arbitrations, administrative proceedings and other forms of dispute resolution. He serves as counsel for a variety of companies, with regular involvement in personnel matters, labor relations, contract negotiations, insurance, risk analysis, and strategic planning. Freed’s dedication to closing the justice gap led him to receive multiple service awards in 2018, including the “But for” leadership award from Leadership Florida and the Michael K. Reese Quality of Life award from the Florida Bar Association.
