WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2014) – Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that shareholder James B. Davis has been appointed to the board of directors for the Community Foundation of Broward.
James B. Davis will serve on the CFB board in 2015, beginning January 1. He previously served on the CFB’s Professional Advisors Council (2013-14), joining a select group of prominent local professional advisers who help CFB clients achieve their philanthropic goals.
Davis leads Gunster’s tax law practice, and works out of the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office.
As a board member, Davis will help lead the CFB’s efforts to foster philanthropy and connect people who care with causes that matter. He will also help direct the Foundation’s strategies to bring together Broward residents to develop collaborative solutions to the community’s most pressing issues.
Davis also served on the board of directors for the Planned Giving Council of Broward in 2013-14. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Miami School of Law since 2013, where he teaches in the Heckerling graduate program in estate planning.
At Gunster, Davis counsels individuals and businesses on ERISA and employee benefits law, corporate, partnership and business law/taxation and estate planning in connection with the formation, operation, merger and liquidation of for-profit entities as well as tax-exempt organizations. Davis is board certified in taxation by the Florida Bar, a frequent lecturer, and has served as an expert witness as to the qualification of pension plans in bankruptcy cases and in civil litigation matters.
