WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – Gunster, Florida’s law firm for business, is pleased to announce that four of its environmental and land use attorneys will be speaking at the upcoming permitting school hosted by the Florida Environmental Network with support from the Florida Chamber Foundation. This annual event that will be held July 17-20, 2012 is expected to draw 800 attorneys, consultants, engineers, state and local government officials, developers and land owners.

Below is a list of our attorney speakers at the event and the topics they will be discussing:

Terry Cole, a shareholder at Gunster and former assistant secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation will be speaking on, “Implementing Florida’s Numeric Nutrient Criteria.” These EPA criteria are scheduled to take effect July 6 and will likely generate significant business opportunities for consulting firms in the biological and engineering fields.

– Wednesday, July 18, 10:30 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.

Luna Phillips, a shareholder at Gunster and former senior attorney for the South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will be speaking on, “Planning for Sustainability 101.” The session will provide a basic overview of creating a greenhouse gas inventory, and developing and implementing a sustainability plan. The session will also focus on energy requirements design to receive stimulus funds.

– Thursday, July 19, 8:30 a.m. – 10:10 a.m.

Phillips will also be speaking about, “Essentials on Obtaining an Environmental Resource Permit.” This course will provide a detailed and in-depth breakdown of the necessary components for the environmental professional to obtain an Environmental Resource Permit in an efficient and effective manner.

– Thursday, July 19, 10:30 a.m. – 12:10 p.m., 1:30 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.

Brian Seymour, a shareholder at Gunster and chair of the Environmental and Land Use practice will be speaking at, “Property Rights Take Center Stage,” session which will discuss the effect of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in Sackett v. Environmental Protection. The case is over whether a landowner can contest and agency’s jurisdiction prior to complying with or violating the order.

– Friday, July 20, 8:30 a.m. – 10:10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.

Marcia Parker Tjoflat, an of counsel attorney at Gunster will be speaking on, “Federal Wetland Jurisdiction,” which will cover EPA and Army Corps of Engineers guidance over wetlands and other “isolated waters.” The Army Corps will also provide an in-depth discussion of the new wetlands guidance and what the regulated community can expect.
