FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA.—May 2, 2007— Orbis, the newly created non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together professionals and promoting the South Florida business community, held a networking fundraiser at The Grape on April 26 to benefit Camp Good Grief.  The event raised $500 for the organization, a three-day camp held in the Fall, Winter, and Spring for children, ages 6-13, who have lost a loved one and are residents of Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Camp Good Grief is organized by Hospice by the Sea.

“It was a terrific event, bringing together more than 60 professionals who raised money for a great organization while also having a terrific time,” said David C. Scileppi, an attorney with Gunster Yoakley and co-founder of Orbis.  Scileppi noted that at least half of the attendees were new to the growing group.

In addition to raising money for Camp Good Grief, the two-hour event also featured a presentation by Mary Harris, renowned business etiquette and international protocol consultant.   Harris demonstrated strategies for professionals to differentiate themselves in the competitive business arena.

“It’s been very rewarding to hold these networking and fundraising events,” added Michael S. Schimmel, an Orbis co-founder, and also an attorney with Gunster Yoakley.  “The wide variety of guests in numerous professional fields were all entertained and educated, and helped a very important cause.”  Schimmel added that the next Orbis event is scheduled for Thursday, June 14th, 2007 at 5:30 pm.  He is anticipating attracting more than 250 guests from Orbis, Riverwalk Trust, and BACH (Benefactors Advancing Covenant House) in a joint cooperative event that will take place at the Museum of Discovery & Science’s new Aviation Station exhibit.

Orbis is a non-profit organization that represents a cross-section of the South Florida business community.  Nicole Flier of James A. Cummings, Inc., Alec Lindenauer of UBS, Craig Moskowitz of Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Samuel A. Schwartz of @Opportunities, LLC and Allyn G. Thomas of RBC Centura Bank are also Board members of Orbis.
