Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, announced that Jon M. Philipson has joined the firm’s business litigation practice as a shareholder in its Tampa office.

Jon Philipson is an accomplished litigator and counselor specializing in complex business disputes for both national and regional business entities. He advises and guides clients in federal and state trial and appellate courts, covering areas such as contract disputes, business negotiations, employment disputes, antitrust matters, shareholder derivative actions, defamation claims and First Amendment issues. Philipson frequently acts as local counsel for businesses pursuing actions in Florida and federal courts and is certified as a circuit civil mediator by the Florida Supreme Court, as well as a court-approved arbitrator for Florida’s 6th, 12th and 13th Judicial Circuits. In addition to dispute resolution, he handles agreements, corporate documents and provides counsel on business transactions, antitrust concerns and potential litigation, serving as an outside general counsel to businesses and individuals.

Prior to Gunster, Philipson was involved in public service at both the national and state level, which included working as an aide to Congressman Jim Davis, serving as a press intern for U.S. Senator Patty Murray, and drafting state legislation in Florida. He also externed and clerked for Chief Judge Anne Conway, of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, working closely with the judge on items such as drafting of opinions and memoranda, researching a wide range of legal topics and preparing jury instructions.
