Gunster is pleased to announce that shareholder Lauren Purdy was recognized during the Federal Bar Association Jacksonville Chapter‘s 16th annual Honorable Harvey E. Schlesinger Spirit of Giving Holiday Luncheon on December 8, 2022.

Lauren received the Spirit of Giving Award for civil litigators from the federal judges of the Jacksonville Division of the Middle District of Florida, for her pro bono service to the federal courts. She volunteered to represent two clients in the past year. In the first case, Lauren handled oral argument before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, representing a federal inmate in a First Amendment case and ultimately achieving a reversal of the District Court’s order. In the second case, she successfully resolved before the Jacksonville Division of the Middle District of Florida an Eighth Amendment case involving a death row inmate’s claim relating to failure to treat his diagnosed Hepatitis C. The case had been pending for more than five years before Purdy was appointed.

The Jacksonville Daily Record published this article highlighting the award, which is presented annually to a civil practice litigator and a criminal practice litigator who has gone above and beyond in providing service to those in need.
